Please join AUDS Capoeira for a weekend full of fun and axé (good energy) playing capoeira and music led by Professor Madeira from Grupo Muzenza to which our group is affiliated. Capoeira (pronounced CAÁ-PUÉRA) is a fun and exciting Brazilian fight style that fuses combat, music, songs, and dance. This martial arts emerged with a deep routed history starting with the black slavery in Brazil. It is unique to other martial arts in its fluid movements that gives the impression of dancing. However, capoeira is foremost a self-defence art with its kicks and blows. It cannot really even be classified as a ‘martial’ art, as the method of teaching rarely involves practicing rigid movements, but rather a variety of techniques are used – namely playing Capoeira with others. But as our Mestre Burguês from Grupo Muzenza says: “Capoeira is capoeira. So that you can understand this better, you must live it”. An excellent start or continuation is this workshop, training.
During the workshop/training, Prof Madeira will be teaching capoeira movements for beginners and more advanced as well as capoeira sequences created by capoeira Masters. Besides this more formal part of the workshop, he will also be teaching how to play some important musical instruments (berimbau, atabaque, pandeiro) and a few capoeira songs. He will also gladly share his vast knowledge about the history and regulations of the art. The workshop/training is open to any age group and suitable for any level of experience with the art; from those how want to play for the first time to those who have played capoeira much longer.
