Its that Joyous time of year again when we get to talk of how things have gone and, more importantly, select your new committee for the upcoming year.
Just to remind everyone what positions will be open:
Captain- previously Ed. Needs to be very passionate about the club and the sport with strong leadership. Need to be proficient in communicating between the club, AUSA, BSL and the wider community. Preferably an aspiring boxer who can take fitness sessions.
Vice-Captain — previously Paddy. Requires a keen individual who is regularly at training and is interested in the direction the club is taking. The position is to assist the Captain and other Committee members with their roles and help at training and other events.
Treasurer (previously Islam). Responsible for keeping track of finances for the club, paying club expenses. Needs to be well organised and able to keep track of things.
2 Secretaries (2 positions available) — Previously Kirstin and Ivy
(Responsible for registering competing boxers with Boxing Scotland, monitoring attendance and memberships, ordering merchandise/boxing gear, compiling emergency contact list, assisting with training)
2 Social Secretaries (2 positions available) — Previously Callum and Marta. You'll be responsible for organising socials for the club, maintaining friendly relations and contact with various clubs and pubs that'll be frequented during the nights out, making sure the night goes according to plan and that people have a good time.
As well as that you'll also be responsible for club sponsorship, collaborating with different teams (Taekwon-do, MMA etc) and helping out with fundraising events.
If you consider yourself a confident, sociable go-getter then put your name down as a potential.
Fundraiser — previously Euan. Responsibilities for thinking up innovative ways to raise funds for the club. Main first task will be to reorganise the ceilidh for next semester. Needs to be a good communicator, hard worker and very good organiser. This can involve more work than you might think, so please make sure you are willing to put in the effort before you apply.
Show Organiser — Previously Samm. Responsible for organising any shows to be held by the club. Responsibilities include organising and booking the venue for the event, officials, equipment, contacting competing universities, applying for a permit, and much more excitement.
Events Officer — Previously Lynne.
In this role you be responsible for organising events throughout the year alongside other members of the committee such as the show organiser and fundraiser. To be successful in this role you must be organised and able to communicate well in order to ensure the smooth running of events.
Equity Officer — Previously Melissa. You need to be confident and passionate to deal with conflict and complaints of others. You push forward projects and current issues to make sure everything is completed fairly. Current projects; Females in boxing and LGBTQ+ in boxing, No bias or bullying within the club.
If people want to apply they need to get approval from a member of committee and the captain. Then post on this page expressing what role you're going for, and why you're suitable. You are also allowed to apply for two roles if you wish. The deadline for applying is a week before the agm (7th march). If you want any information on any particular role please ask!
As long as you're passionate about the club and a good communicator you should be good for any of the roles. Don't be put off by what year you're in etc. :)
