The Aberdeen National Undergraduate Surgical Conference 2018 will be held on the 17th March, and consists of ENT and Plastics. If you have an interest in surgery, are contemplating any of the above specialties, or would like to find out more, then this is an ideal opportunity, as we are fortunate to have several eminent speakers attending: Professor Ah See (Head and Neck), Mr. Wardrop (cochlear implants), Mr. Ram (skull base and FESS), Miss Maini (Otology), and several others.
Furthermore, we are conducting numerous 30-minute surgical skills workshops for the afternoon segment: nasoendoscopy, tracheostomy on sheeps larynxes, nasal packing, the Dix-Hallpike Test and Epley Manoeuvre, basic suturing and knot-tying, as well as cyst removal on pigs trotters. Practical skills are an area that Ogston Surgical Society is known to execute well, and with the help of surgeons at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, we have created accurate training sessions, with the use of hospital-grade equipment, animal tissue, as well as models.
Throughout the day we will also be coordinating poster presentations, based upon topics related to the conference specialities. If you would like an opportunity to present a poster at this event, please submit an abstract to [email protected]
Certificates will be given to all attendees, and prizes will be awarded for the best poster presentations. We look forward to your submissions!
Attendance fees are £10 for Ogston members, and £15 for non-Ogston members, this includes lunch and refreshments, as well as hot drinks. Attendees from outside of Aberdeen may wish to book an overnight stay to avoid early morning travel, we do not anticipate problems in finding accommodation, though we are more than happy to assist if that is the case. Please email [email protected]
if you wish to attend and we will reserve a place for you.
We wish you all the best of luck in your careers, and look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.
